We're delighted to report that we are gradually moving over to biodegradable cello wrapping for our boxed candles & diffusers. We are working with Futamura to bring you Natureflex cello which is made from renewable wood-pulp from managed plantations, and is certified to the European (EN13432) and American (ASTM D6400) norms for compostable packaging.
Look out for this label on our boxes going forwards, this will indicate that the cello wrapping, the clear seals and even the Natureflex label itself are all biodegradable, which means they can all go on the compost heap with organic waste and will actually enhance soil quality.
Did you know that Cellophane has been around for over 100 years and was originally made from cellulose, ie from vegetables, but as far back as 1951 the product that most people call cellophane started to be made increasingly from polypropylene, a thermoplastic polymer, and the world’s second most widely manufactured synthetic plastic. By working with Natureflex we are going full circle and offering you cellophane as nature intended!
While we have your attention, please note that our white boxes are completely recyclable as we took the decision not to have a laminated coating (which would have protected them from grubby fingers and general wear and tear but is not recyclable) so we cello instead to keep our boxes looking clean and smart – so you can now pop the boxes in your cardboard recycling and the cello on the compost heap.
